A healthy diet leads to a healthy body and this includes your eyes. Through healthy eating, you can avoid developing diabetes. When you have diabetes, your risk of cataracts increases greatly. In general, eating healthy is a good way to prevent your eyes from developing cataracts early. Eating foods that are rich in antioxidants has been shown to lower the risk of cataracts—so eat right and make sure you’re taking your vitamins!

Drink In Moderation

In large amounts, alcohol is dangerous and can lead to all kinds of health issues, mainly relating to the liver. Wearing sunglasses or a hat with a brim to protect your eyes is always a good idea when it’s sunny out— and will protect you from other issues that may come up with your eyes. Avoiding UV damage is a good rule in general, so make sure you wear sunglasses that specifically protect against UV rays as well.

Have Regular Eye Exams

Keeping up with your eye health and any changes to your vision is a good way to monitor your risk of developing cataracts. If your doctor does spot an issue developing, early intervention can slow the growth of any cataracts. Always have your yearly exam to make sure everything looks as it should!
