Hear what patients have to say about Ellis Eye and the IQ Laser Vision family!
Dr. Erica Liu is amazing from beginning to end! I received the SMILE procedure and couldnt be happier. It really was a life changing experience. All staff was friendly and always checked in with me to see if I had any questions or needed anything. I was SO nervous and almost didnt go the day of procedure. Boy, so glad I did. I was worried about keeping my eyes open or moving. But all went smoothly all thanks to Dr Liu and her team.
I cannot believe how incredible fast lasik is! The staff is professional and kind. Im very happy I went through with the lasik procedure. Following the directions and accepting the process helps with the anxiousness and produces the best outcome. Thank you so much for correcting my vision IQ laser vision center!
I was pitched the SmILE Operation and its been 8 months since I undergone the operation. I was referred to this location since it handled my moms Lasik operation a few decades ago.Christine was the consultant; she was VERY enthusiastic about the new SmILE procedure and went really big on pitching me this method. Im not really big on overly enthusiastic attitudes, but she was very attentive whenever I texted her regarding daily maintenance/tasks leading up to the procedure.Doctors:I had 2 different eye doctors for my examination (before and after the procedure) and they both respectively exuded confidence that reinforced they know exactly what they were doing and were quick to dispel any misconceptions I had about the whole process (procedure and recovery).Operation:The operation takes place in their City of Industry Location and was performed by Doctor Hofmeister (1 of the 2 capable doctors in CA they tell me). She checks up with you with a small chat pre surgery so you know what youre getting yourself into and whats going to happen during and after the procedure. During the procedure, shes practically a strategy guide; she tells you whats gonna happen and it happens 2 seconds later, step by step.Immediately after the surgery, vision resembled a blurred vaseline view of the world. After 1 month: eyes are still sensitive and the world still looks off. After 3 months: things start to settle and felt more alright. After 6 months+: I feel the new status quo has been settled. Im disappointed that I havent achieved 20/20 vision (though, case by case basis means Im not guaranteed max optimized results), but I am surprised at times of my vision performing better than I expect it to.Only setback to come from the procedure:I noticed I used to be able to binge-watch or read something for hours on end, but now when I get tired, my vision practically blurs over and my vision becomes unreliable. Not optimal when Im trying to push my body past its limits, but I suppose its a practical con to the whole procedure.Again, results are a case by case thing and everyone is different, etc. If you're bad with keeping track with portable wearable accessories, maybe consider it; also keep in mind less invasive procedures are always better.
All the staff were so incredibly nice and accommodating. Dr Lin was patient and kind and very comforting during the procedure as I was very nervous at first. I'm on day 5 and so far so good! Vision seems to be getting clearer daily and I'm excited for it to be fully healed. No issues with healing but I will say I would suggest taking 2 days off after the procedure even though they say you can go back to work after 24 hrs. I definitely had very watery eyes and pretty strong sensitivity again for about 2 days after but that went away after that.
SMILE was one of the best decisions of my life.I have been interested in lasik ever since I started to wear glasses as a kid. My eyes have never been horrible but I am nearsighted -3.5 ish so I definitely cant get by without corrective lenses. My mom got lasik with Dr. Hyver (also part of this practice!) and has had perfect vision since. Before med school I worked at a retina practice as a medical assistant; at that time, a new procedure, SMILE, was just starting to be offered. I did a lot of research on it and found it was a less invasive, faster healing version of lasik where a small hole is created instead of an entire flap. This leads to improved adverse effects. I was excited about the new procedure but wanted to wait a few more years for it to develop in the US (it has been used in Europe and China for decades) before doing it myself. Also because of all the reading I planned to do in med school I figured my prescription might change. The only surgeon at the time who offered this procedure in my area was Dr. Phan.Fast forward 4 years I am now a fourth year medical student and I was ready to get corrective surgery! First I contacted several of my ophthalmology mentors in med school in New York. They unanimously said that SMILE would be the best procedure if I was a candidate and that Dr. Pham was the best person in the business (crazy that his name was known to people across the country as well!!) I made a visit to their clinic for a free consultation and the staff took time to check my vision to make sure it was stable as well as run a series of tests to check whether my cornea was thick enough for the various procedures. Tommy was especially helpful in going over the different procedures and payment method. They were able to help me figure out a way to finance the procedure even as a student. It was so clear that everyone in the office is very knowledgeable.I scheduled my surgery for 2 months out. Then came operation day! I was nervous but the staff and Dr. Pham were so understanding and calming. Dr. Pham meticulously checked my vision before the procedure to make sure to program the machine correctly. He put in two numbing drops and let the laser go to work. I felt nothing! Then he manually removed the lenticule. My mom watched and filmed the whole procedure and told me he was able to get the entire lenticule out in one go (no pieces were missing!!) 15 minutes later I was on my way home. When I got home I went immediately to bed as instructed. When I woke up the next morning (~12 hours later,) I had zero pain, zero dryness, and perfect vision. I was in shock, I could not believe these were my eyes!!! My family and friends are also shocked I cant wait for them to have visual independence as well!Thank you so much to the entire IQ vision team for making the entire process so seamless. I know it sounds dramatic, but this was seriously life changing.
